Distribute & Place Guide Lines Automatically - After Effects Script

Script panel for After Effects that helps to distribute and place guide lines within your active composition!

Now updated to include the "Create Margin" section, which allows for creating guide lines based on a chosen distance (either in pixels or percentage) from the edges of your composition.

INSTALLATION

Can be run in After Effects simply by navigating to: "File > Scripts > Run Script File", then selecting the script file.

Alternatively, you can install the script file so that it will appear in your "File > Scripts" menu for future use ("File > Scripts > Install Script File").

USAGE

DISTRIBUTE EVENLY

Enter the amount of guide lines you wish to distribute along the X and Y axis, then click "Distribute Guides". You can leave one of the boxes blank (or input "0") if you do not wish to include any guide lines along that axis.

If "Auto Clear Existing Guides" is enabled, pre-existing guide lines will be cleared whenever you click "Distribute Guides".

CREATE MARGIN

Enter your desired distance amount, and select a distance type (either pixels, or percent).

Then, select from which edge of your active composition you would like the guide line to be placed. Select "All" to perform the operation on all four edges at once.

For example, inputting "25", "pixels", then selecting "top" will place a guide line 25 pixels from the top of your composition. Changing the type to "percent" would instead place a guide line 25% from the top of your composition (in which 100% would be the bottom of your composition).

Press "Clear All Guides" to clear all guide lines from your active composition.
